TPI’s Mission Statement

“Swing your Swing.” No better words than these from Arnold Palmer capture the current state of swings on the PGA Tour.

From Scottie Scheffler to Dustin Johnson to Mathew Wolf, players of all shapes and sizes are swinging across an inordinate amount of planes and angles. These unique swings truly show no one “perfect swing” exists and customising your swing to your body’s strengths and weaknesses is critical.
How can you go about understanding how to effectively customise your golf swing? Fortunately, the answer is out there in the form of a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Screen.

“What is a TPI screening?”

A TPI screen is administered by a trainer who has completed TPI’s comprehensive training and consists of a series of individual fitness tests that work to assess your physicality for golf. These tests target your back, shoulders, and wrists, among others. The results from these tests allow a trainer to identify areas where your physicality needs some improvement and how improving these areas can enhance your golf game.

Not all TPI trainers are golf professionals, but the TPI screen has been developed to correlate with the golf swing. Often, TPI professionals can offer exercises to target specific areas and prevent them from hindering your golf game. In many cases, information learned during a TPI screen can help you and your golf professional develop a swing that works around your limitations.
Ultimately, completing a TPI screen will help you understand the most efficient and effective way to improve your physicality for golf, or how to customise your swing around your body’s limitations.

TPI’s Assessment Screen

If you don’t assess, it’s just a guess.

To achieve an efficient swing, a golfer must first be screened. A proper screen involves an assessment of swing mechanics, biomechanics, physical fitness, movement quality, current health, and injury history.

The TPI movement screen is a simple test to quickly evaluate a player’s physical capabilities. The results of that assessment are used to determine how technical elements of the player’s swing could be related to what their body can or cannot do. Once this screen is finished, the results are used to create a plan unique for that golfer. The plan may include fitness training, physical therapy and treatment, coaching of swing mechanics and biomechanics, nutrition, mental strategy or all of the above.
